Dr. Alpana Shukla

Alpana Shukla (Member, 2014) obtained the B.Sc. degree with Gold Medal, from Gujarat University in 1983, the M.Sc. degree in Environmental Biology and PhD. degree in Botany from Gujarat University in 1983 and 1992, respectively. She has also obtained PG Diploma in Ayuryogam from Gujarat University in 2012.

She is a pioneer in grassland mapping using remote sensing technology. She joined M. G. Science Institute, Ahmedabad in 1994 after a brief stint of teaching at the St.Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad. Having been in the field of education since two decades, currently she is the Head of Botany Department at M. G. Science Institute and has several research projects, mainly in the field of Remote Sensing Applications. At the Department, she leads a team of students and professionals responsible for teaching, innovation, project monitoring, inter personal relationships, academics, public interface, and internal quality assessment.

She has organized several workshops, exhibitions, conferences and talks and has presented many papers at National and International Symposia. She has put special efforts in popularizing activities related to dissemination of knowledge of Plant Sciences and Applications of Geomatics technology in various schools, colleges, NGOs and government Departments. 

She is the recipient of the prestigious awards like, “President’s Appreciation Medal for Contribution to the Indian Society of Geomatics for the Year 2013” and ‘Dr. N.K.Patel Gold Medal” from Gujarat University for standing First in Botany.

Her areas of interest include Marine and Coastal Management, Soil moisture, Plant Ecosystems and Biodiversity Conservation. She has completed a research project on Coastal Zone Management and presently executing 3 research projects sponsored by Space Applications Centre (ISRO), Ahmedabad. She is life member of several professional societies and Joint-Secretary of Indian Society of Geomatics, Ahmedabad Chapter.
