Nirzar Lakhia

NirzarLakhia (Member 2013) obtained his Double MSc. Degrees in the field of “Geology” and “Applied Geology” from Gujarat University and M S University resp. Realising the importance of Geomatics in his current field of work he decided to go for the further studies and completed his PGD in “Geomatics in Hazards and Risk Analysis” from (IIRS) ’Indian Institute of Remote Sensing’ at Dehradun. Apparently he is pursuing his PhD in “Application of Geomatics in Artificial Groundwater Recharge structures”.

He has over 13years of professional experience in Industry, Academia and Research.

Industry: Started his career as a Mining Geologist/Mines Manager in '1998’ today he is associated with various private organizations as a Geo-Hydrologist for mining and groundwater development projects.  He holds the position as an Empanelled Expert to several environmental Consultants in Landuse, Geology and Hydrology since 2004.

He has also worked as a Planning associated (GIS/RS) to private organizations and universities like CEPT and has been consultant in several projects related to Urban planning.

Academia: He started and coordinated Masters Level program in Geomatics at (SERI) Scanpoint Education Research Institute in 2007. He also a coordinator for M.Sc. degree in Climate Change at Gujarat University and delivers lectures at department of Geomatics. He has been associated with CEPT University as a visiting faculty at School of Planning, Climate Change and Building Science & Technology. At times he has been delivering guest lectures to the Nirma university and has conducted short Term training courses with DAIICT, Gandhinagar on “Applications of Open Source Geomatics Softwares”.

He is also proficient in conducting customized short term training to various private organizations for educating existing employees in GIS whilst guide them in establishing new GIS divisions.

Research: He has guided students of Gujarat University for their PGD Dissertation projects and has also published and presented few papers. Earlier he was involved as a member of research team in the development of the ‘IGIS’ software at SGL. Apparently he has been involved in the development of few mobile applications and has started an indigenous company in the field of Geomatics under the name of ‘IGRI’.
