Dr. Saroj Maity

Saroj Maity (Member, 2013) obtained his B. Sc. (Physics) and M. Sc. (Solid state physics) degree from Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal in 1990 and 1993 respectively.  He joined School of Physical Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India in 1993 for research work in the field of "laser light scattering study of gelatin gels, sols and micelle" and obtained his Ph. D. degree in 1999.

He joined Inter University Consortium-Department of Atomic Energy Facilities (IUC-DAEF), Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai as Research Associate (RA) in 1998 and worked till April 2000 in the field of "Neutron Scattering from bio-macromolecules". He worked as a project scientist in the Opto-electronics Laboratory, Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, in the field of diffusive wave spectroscopy from April-Decemeber 2000. He has been scientist with the Space Applications Centre, Indian Space Research Organisation, Ahmedabad, India, since December 2000. He is actively involved in the field of polarimetric SAR for land applications like crop monitoring, biophysical parameter retrieval and soil moisture estimation.

His special interest is in electro-magnetic wave interaction with vegetation and soil, and different classification techniques and algorithm development. He is involved in RISAT-UP projects and also been working in several AO programs of Envisat, Radarsat-2, ALOS-PALSAR, and COSMO-SkyMed.
